Our Director, Marie Oldfield (CStat, CSci) has been involved in pro bono statistics work for many years as we mentioned on a previous post. This week we thought we would give you a sneak peak into the types of projects that are reviewed on the Royal Statistical Society Pro Bono Panel.
Higher Education Statistics:
How we can improve student’s chances by analysing the big data that Universities collect. We not only provide a contextual report but recommend further data points and actions based on the data. The data is often broken down into many individual characteristics so cleaning the data and sewing it together into a picture that represents real life is often quite time-consuming and requires expert input.
Surveys to measure effectiveness in the third sector:
It is important to ensure that funding goes to the most effective places and that we measure that effectiveness. We have been working with surveys and developing them so that we can produce a real life representation of where funding is currently, or likely to be, most effective. We also develop questioning to find out what more could be provided to develop the service further to help recipients.
Even the smallest projects provide huge value to charities or SME’s that otherwise would not be able to get valuable input.
