Oldfield Consultancy is supporting analytical and modelling tasks for dstl.
has signed the contract to model highly sensitive and extremely granular ballistics scenarios. We were also requested to validate and verify with airframe availability model against RAF requirements.
The Ballistics Modelling is a mothballed product that is being integrated into a new user front end. This work has meant that the older code has to be verified and the output validated. Experimental scenarios with targets and ballistics have been developed and run to determine if the model is robust. This model is extremely complex and mathematical with specialist input so it became critical to assemble the right skills within the team. Having run numerous tests it was found that a large update would be required to bring the model up to code so that it could be validated and verifies. dstl are currently considering future options for this type of modelling based on our recommendations.
The airframe availability and training model was commissioned from Price Waterhouse Coopers. Oldfield Consultancy will be validating and Verifying this model for dstl with a view to audit preparation. Working alongside the RAF for requirements and operational methodology has meant that the validation can move much faster and be based on current situations rather than modeller approximations. Oldfield Consultancy is also working alongside Rowland Goodman in this collaborative task having brought Rowland on board as a coding expert.
